Walking routes from Lao Chai lead through the valley’s terraced slopes and neighbouring villages. Tả Van is 2.7 km away, Cat Cat Village is 3.6 km away, and Sapa Market is 3.3 km away in town. June to August brings green terraces but is also Sa Pa’s wettest period; in September and early October the fields turn golden for harvest. March to May and September to November are generally the most settled months for exploring. HamRong mountain is 3.1 km away, with paths above the town.
